Sunset for the Blarney Mobile--But Five O'Clock Somewhere

Saturday found the Crone and the Cackler out in search of yard sales. They didn’t have much luck as the day was wet and cold. Wiser witches would have taken this as a sign and gone home to bed but the gruesome twosome pressed on, piling more and more packages into the Blarneymobile and ending their shopping extravaganza at the supermarket . Pulling out of the parking lot, the Crone observed that her temperature guage was shooting alarmingly high. She stopped outside a nearby Mexican restaurant and ordered the Cackler out of the car–and not a moment too soon. Within seconds, steam was surging skyward and disturbing gurgling noises could be heard from under the hood. The Crone called Triple A and the Cackler repaired to the bar at the restaurant and ordered a margarita, frozen, with salt. The Crone, still believing that she might drive home, asked for a glass of water. Both drinks arrived within moments–and so did the tow truck. While the gloomy mechanic ( ” Say goodbye to it–your head gasket will have gone” ) hoisted the hapless hatchback on to his flatbed, the Cackler did her best to down her Tequila-laced slurpee. But the drink had been served in a bucket and was brain-freezingly cold. It was only possible to glug a mouthful a minute and the Crone and Mr Misery were getting impatient. Ever enterprising, the Cackler asked for a plastic cup to go, only to discover that Maryland prohibits portable Patron, forcing her to leave nearly a quart of her cocktail undrunk. This, combined with the effrontery of the day before’s beach charge forced her to the conclusion that America is perhaps not so much the land of the free as she had originally been led to believe…

Riding high above the hardcore, the Crone and the Cackler arrived in Itchy Ankle in the cab of the tow-truck and were deposited at the excellent shop of Kent Boone. From there, Barkis rode to the rescue, delivering the two to their own front door.

Between the drama and the stiff drink, both were exhausted, but, as it turned out, in much better shape than the car which not even Boone’s Automotive can save. RIP Blarneymobile, pictured below with Hansel the Handsome in happier days for all.

Insurance Company Scams, Fraud and Rip Offs in Settling Pedestrian, Bicycle, Car and Motorcycle Injury and Wrongful Death Accidents Explained By An Experienced Personal Injury Attorney for Simi Valley

Insurance Company Scams, Fraud and Rip Offs in Settling Pedestrian, Bicycle, Car and Motorcycle Injury and Wrongful Death Accidents Explained By An Experienced Personal Injury Attorney for Simi Valley

As a Car, Truck, Bicycle, Pedestrian & Motorcycle Injury and Wrongful Death Accident Attorney for Simi Valley, California one has to ask just how much profit insurance companies need to make to be satisfied. The answer, when one examines the scams, fraud and rip offs some are perpetrating today in settling personal injury accident and wrongful death claims, it appears that there is no limit to their greed.

When you get into an accident today, whether it’s your fault or someone else’s, either you or the persons you injure as a pedestrian, on a bicycle, in a car or on a motorcycle are likely going to be forced to deal with an insurance company that is determined to offer as little money as possible to settle any injury claims.

If you are the person who has been injured in the bicycle, pedestrian, car or motorcycle accident or if you’ve lost a loved one, the worst thing you can do today is to try to settle your claim with the insurance company yourself. While insurance companies consider lawyers to be annoyances, they consider you to be a nuisance and will usually offer you only what they consider to be a “nuisance value settlement.” Once they have the mind set that your case can be settled for such a paltry amount, an attorney’s involvement will not change matters.

Your insurance company will be offering you or the other driver only a portion of the medical bills and a small amount for pain and suffering. If you or they have an attorney, the attorney will have to prevail on the medical providers to slash their medical bills by 1/3 to one half in order to have sufficient money left over for any attorney fees for their time and effort and the frustration of dealing with an insurance company today and to put any money into your pocket or the pocket of the persons injured in the accident.

If you’ve been seriously injured in an accident, call the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson at (800) 589-3202 or e-mail us at our website, www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com If we are contacted early on in a case, we can prepare your case properly to obtain the settlement you deserve for your injuries.

As badly as insurance companies treat the people they insure, they treat others even worse. Why should you care about the person you’ve injured? First, it’s the right thing to be concerned about someone you hurt. Second, you shouldn’t be causing them to be frustrated again when they have to deal with your insurance company. And third, when your insurance company tries to stiff them by paying them less than the amount of their medical bills and a reasonable amount for pain and suffering, much less any attorneys’ fees so they can have an attorney deal with your insurance company, they risk making the injured party sue you in order to obtain what is fair and reasonable.

As a result of the determination by liability insurance companies to make as much money as they can for their shareholders and executives, the person or persons who have been injured in the accident, whether those persons are the individuals in your vehicle or the other persons hurt by your vehicle, they will, without an experienced attorney, be forced to accept a paltry amount. Their doctor bills or your doctor bills will have to be slashed (of if there is medical insurance, the right of the medical insurance company to reimbursement will have to be significantly reduced) and your lawyer may have to reduce his or her fees as well or face the expensive alternative of filing suit.

The cause of this entire process is nothing short of a scam and a rip off by certain liability insurers who claim in their advertising to be your best friend and who, when you need them most, or when the person you hit needs them most, turn into greedy monsters who refuse to pay more than a paltry amount and who risk having you sued by any person that you injure.

We’ve been handling personal injury cases for over 30 years and the climate in dealing with insurance companies has never been worse. While we’ve settled cases exceeding one million dollars on a number of occasions, it’s the smaller soft tissue cases where a person has significant pain but doesn’t fracture a bone or require surgery that an extremely experienced attorney can be needed even more to obtain a good settlement. Having previously represented insurance companies, we know how to deal with these companies and have been very successful in obtaining millions and millions of dollars for our clients over the years.

If you want to obtain what you’re entitled to for your personal injury claim in California, call the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson today at (800) 589-3202 or e-mail us at our web site, www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com

Beardus Maximus fan art, day 24

I wondered what Bob Weiner would look like if he were a car.

This fan art is made to help sell an excellent comic book, published as a collected trade of the web comic PC Weenies by Krishna Sadasivam. The comic book is called Rebootus Maximus.

As I’m not that good at drawing cars yet, you might think that I used some tricks to create this image. And you would be right. After giving enough contrast to the image with Levels and drawing with white and black, I used the paint artistic filter of GIMP to give it a painterly look and feel. It disguises many of the little mistakes I made.

That is all.

Birthday …

Its the eldest lads birthday today. He was supposed to be at drama tonight, but there was some problem with the village hall. Apparently the new paint job had not been completed, so they could not rehearse. Two of his friends, B*** and C******* came home with him at around half 8, and we all went off to the pub about 10 o’clock. A very pleasant evening.

I need to do a bit of maintenance on my car at the moment. I gave it a vacuum out this morning, and thought I had better top up my washers. It was then that I spotted, that the coolant needed topping up. Well I had some of that from last year, but I then checked the oil, and it was a bit below the ‘min’ mark on the dipstick. So I need to get some of that tomorrow. If they have it, it seems to be cheapest in ASDA. However knowing my luck, they won’t have any, and I’ll have to pay a bit more and get some from Halfords. I think it is a good to have some on hand.

Gale force winds and rain

Well yesterday was intense. There was a weather warning out the whole day for gale force winds. I don’t know if they were gale force but they blew down a lot of tree branches, twigs, leaves and what not. They also blew down my vegetable net and broke some of the connectors. So I had to quickly salvage what was left and flatten it all down so it didn’t blow away! I just hope that my tomatoes and other things survive the battering they got all day yesterday and all of last night! Only time will tell.

Naturally due to the wind, I didn’t sleep a wink (I don’t like wind at night) and on top of that, when I did doze off, I was having mini-nightmares about getting the car stuck in the mud, or the splashes from the puddles cracking my hot engine block and all sorts of things.

We had 20mm of rain yesterday which bumps up this month’s total to over 100mm. That’s 1/5th of our annual total. In a month. Crazy stuff. I think that this drought we’ve been stuck in may be coming to an end. We’ll just have to see how much of the run off makes it into the dams.

Other than the excitement caused by the weather, yesterday was a fairly average day. The Boss only came in 3 times, all for work related stuff.  Today I will finally get to start the work that I was meant to have started last week, but couldn’t. Bonus of this work is it ties up my computer for everything but the process that is running and the internet so I can browse my blog-friends today without feeling the slightest bit guilty.

I did manage to sort out the insurance for replacing my car’s wind shield. It got hit with a stone on Saturday-a huge stone-which cracked the window. If it had just been a chip I would’ve taken it to be fixed. But it’s cracked so it needs to be replaced. So I had a looooong chat to the insurance people who wanted to know every tiny thing about me. BUT it’s sorted out and hopefully the replacement will arrive on Wednesday and I won’t have to peer around the shiny crack in my window any more. Because of course, it’s right at eye-level.

Tonight I have dinner with the Girls, though I have to admit that I haven’t organised anything. Something will fall into place I am sure! J made his mince for dinner last night, and I sat and watched NCIS. Love that show!  Without further ado, I’m off to do some work

Cosa significa single instance? Molteplici società nello stesso database BPCS, integrate completamente.

  • USA 2 Plant
  • SWE 2 PLant
  • CH Holding
  • Sales Admin (Ita, Ger , Spain, Uk, Singapore, Japan)

Col senno di poi i fattori critici sono stati;

  • Risorse interne , motivate.
  • Consulenti preparati.
  • Tecnici senza frontiere .

Back in March I posted a blog about my distinct lack of knowledge in regards to car mechanicing, and how how I’d panic at the first sign of a problem. Well, I went and did something about it.

Less than three months later I left the only job I’ve ever really had, and started work in a garage. In fact, it was the very same garage that had inadvertently caused the debacle in the first place. I work there as assistant manager, and over the past few months I have increased my mechanical knowledge no end. And with this knowledge I came to make, what would would appear to be, a somewhat strange decision. I’ve jettisoned my car.

It occurred to me that owning a car was a bit of an extravagance, not to mention a huge expense, especially when I work less than two miles away from where I live. The town centre is a ten minute walk away in one direction, and there’s a good supermarket a ten minute walk away in the other. I simply don’t need one. Of course the weather is yet to turn yet, and I may well regret this decision when winter arrives, but as it stands at the moment I can’t believe that I didn’t do this years ago.

2nd biggest purchase of our lives...

Well, last post I mentioned that I thought we would be making a very large purchase. And we did.

We bought a new (used) car. That whole “one-car family” thing lasted a mere six weeks. In theory, it was good, in practice, it had some flaws. A couple days we realized we both needed to have a car and had to rely on family or friends to help us out.

We (really Mr D2S) researched what would be a good purchase for us. In the end, we were both very happy with what we decided to get. I think we negotiated a great price too!

While we could’ve waited a few more weeks and paid cash for the car, we decided to take out a loan to help build our credit. I am normally very anti-car loans, and it took a lot of convincing on the husband’s part to get me to go along with it. We put 1/3 down on the car and will pay off 80% of the loan before the end of the year. Basically, in the end, we’ll pay about $2000 over 12-24 months.

Top fuel dragsters accelerate at up to 5g from standing start. The nitromethane injection produces 6000 BHP.The fastest time for removing a car engine, and replacing it is 42 seconds for a Ford Escort, on 21 November 1985.

An airbag moves up to 4500 mph within a second when triggered. A force of 200g is generated. They are designed to explode at an impact speed of 19 mph. The bag inflates within 40 milliseconds of a crash.

The Ferrari Formula 1 team is unique in the fact that it produces both chassis and engines for its cars.

Ferrari makes a maximum of 14 cars every day.

There were only 107 models of the Ford GT40 made of which only 7 were road cars.

The Worlds longest traffic hold-up was 110 miles long, between Paris and Lyon on the French Autoroute in 1980. A more recent contender for the title was a 100 mile long traffic Jam, near Hamburg in Germany in 1993.

The first known automobile was built in 1668, it was a two foot long steam powered model constructed by Ferdinand Verbiest, a Belgian Jesuit preist.

Luxembourg has the most crowded roads in Europe with 570 cars per 1,000 people.

The first car race ever seen in the United States was held in Chicago in 1895. The track ran from Chicago to Evanston. The winner was J. Frank Duryea, whose average speed was 71.5 miles per hour.

In 1924 a Ford automobile cost $265.

The weekly portrait # 3

Hi folks, how y’all doing?

This week is motorsport week on FMPB! These themed weeks are gonna happen from time to time here as interesting subjects come up. This week, I’m just back from shooting a race weekend, so it’s roaring engines and tight curves on FMPB.

Along with some of the footage from the shoot, I’m gonna throw some of what I learned out there as far as technique goes, as well as some more general thoughts on snapping that apply in particular to the subject.

So while the pistons are pumping, let’s get right into it with this week’s portrait!

© Frederic Mancosu

The main point in this one’s story is light. I did a quick three light setup here that presented me with the problem of having to have one of them on camera to trigger the other two. Which leads me to the incredible, exclusive, DIY emergency softbox! But more on that tomorrow, stay posted!

Betsy Photographed

My little Betsy.

1997 Daewoo Lanos. Five speed manual. Five door hatch.

I wanted to call it something from American Dad. When I heard ‘Lanos’ (because I’d never heard of this car before buying it) I kept thinking of a scene from American Dad, where Roger (the alien) tricks Steve (the kid) into thinking Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is in their town.

Naturally.

Roger takes Steve to a run down house thinking it wasn’t going to work, and Steve gets accepted in by some tough’s who turn out to be drug dealers, thinking that Steve is “the new guy”.

Steve gets put with a Mexican who can’t speak English. His instructions are something like “Lavatae las manos!” and Steve thinks it’s a spell.

Lanos…manos…

Get it?

LAVATAE LAS MANOS! LAVATAE LAS LANOS!

Ave Maria and the Buttercream-Colored Girl

Or ‘How I know I’m not in Minnesota anymore’.

Stop signs are optional.

This was discovered back during the white knuckle days of learning to navigate the streets.  There is one particular stop sign in the big city where everybody just kind of rolls on by.  I do it, too, but the initial thrill has worn off.

In the beginning it was all rather naughty, but after snickering my way through many roll-bys, I just kind of complain now if the guy or gal in front of me isn’t rolling on through quick enough.

You can park anywhere, anytime for any amount of time.

Sure, there are plenty of no-parking and private parking signs.  But, what good is a sign without enforcement?  I have never seen a tow truck hauling any illegally parked cars here.  Parking tickets?  Maybe they are given out, but I haven’t seen any meter maids or cops walking the streets tagging cars.

The whole island is like a giant free-for-all parking lot.  If you can’t find a spot, just pull off the road an inch so that at least one tire is off the pavement and park it.  No need for hazard lights or even to signal that you are, in fact, slowing down to park in the middle of the street.  That’s what brakes are for and the steering wheel was made for moving around such obstacles.

It took 5 weeks to change the pool light.

I still don’t know why this particular repair was such a tricky one.  After we had the fire in the fuse box, it only took 4 days to get electricity back to normal in all parts of the house and when the kitchen light went a little batty, it took a mere 2 weeks to discover that, indeed, the bulb really did need to be changed.

At the 3 week mark and while a friend of mine was visiting from Chicago, I had high hopes that soon the pretty blue glow would once again be bouncing off the palms.  When I came home from work that night, my friend told me that the pool guy had, once more, been around and changed the light.  I walked over to the on/off switch and flipped it on.  Nothing.

Maybe the underwater element added another level of complexity or maybe it was just time to call it a day?  And I guess after 3 weeks of trying different bulbs and other such electrical maneuvering, to test that the most recent bulb installation would work, would be rather a big occasion.  I think the pool guy graciously wanted me to have the first joy of experiencing the light working, again.  And after another 2 weeks, it did.

Sometimes it pays to get that extra option.

There’s a parking ramp located at the main/tourist shopping complexes here.  The drill is to pull a ticket when entering and then pay at a machine before heading back into your car to exit.  Just remember to load up on your ginko biloba if you’re parking there.

On many an occasion, the Frenchman and I have sat in our car and waited while someone who had driven down to the one exit, parked their car at the exit and got out of their car.  The driver then walked back up the steep concrete ramp and across the parking garage to head over to the elevators to go down to the machine on the main level to pay the ticket.  One chance, folks.  Just one chance.

As many people or things that can fit into a car can also fit onto a scooter.

There’s always space and when there’s a scooter, there’s a way.  It’s not uncommon to see 3 people cruising the main roadways and town streets on one scooter.  Add to the mix, a pile of bags with the weekly shopping and you really do start to question the necessity of a mini-van.

Sometimes, the early morning traffic mix will include a gifted and talented man with a giant bundle of tree clippings, the breath of which is as wide as the road,  strapped to his head put-putting it to his end point.  Have body.  Have scooter.  Will move.

Scooter helmets are mandatory, but lights at night are a nice-to-have.

I’ve developed a reflex night-driving skill – quick recognition of a body outline atop a scooter in the inky darkness.  While wearing of a helmet when riding a scooter is mandatory and everybody here complies, it seems as if having working tail lights and headlights is not as critical.

Sure, lights are great when trying to see where you’re going at night, especially if the territory is unknown and bumpy; but are they really necessary when quickly cruising down the main paved highway? Once you become familiar with a road, it’s like auto-pilot.  One could even say that you really could drive it with your eyes closed.

Indoor lighting design is over-rated and unnecessary.

Why fuss and muss with choosing a fancy-pants light fixture even if you have extra money to toss about.  Just slap a long tube fluorescent bulb to the middle of a wall or at the edge of a ceiling and you’re good to go.  It’s easier to change the bulb without the cover and nothing gets in the way of the pure light projectile.

Life In The Fast Lane!

Well it’s been awhile.. however that gives me lots to write about tonight. My little sister did her usual psychotic thing last night and went crazy.. what am I going to do with her?? Cleaned the entire downstairs and in the process I lost like a hundred cookbooks my mom gave me.. checked the garbage and like everywhere I would stash something and they haven’t turned up yet, but I haven’t lost hope yet either. Work has been work, somedays are okay and somedays are the worst days ever. Lately it’s been the latter of the two, another reason I haven’t been blogging much. Finally set a date for my Pampered Chef party ((November 18th 2009)) EVERYONE IS INVITED!! Sold some more avon, and opened up a citizens bank account for Avon. Went to the Jay-Z Concert and it was AMAZING. Honestly I wasn’t 100% sure I’d have fun but it was out of this world, Jay-Z is an amazing live perfomer if you ever get the opportunity to see him whether you like his music or not go! It’ll be worth it. I lost my wallet the other day, but it was really in Brent’s car so I stressed myself out and freaked out for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Lame. I bought a fire pit and actually had a fire last weekish sometime. It was pretty sweet, an amazing investment. Can’t think of much else to say other than check out my avon site register with me and recieve special offers!! http://blerch.avonrepresentative.com =]

Thanks Bunches!!

Web

In a residential neighborhood in Minnesota, a family of four once drove into an intersection at night. The car slowed to a stop in the middle of the intersection. The wheels of the car burned rubber. The kids in the back screamed as they saw a massive arachnid floating in midair just outside of the window.

The car was trapped in a huge spiderweb. The family managed to escape through the trunk of the car.

When police finally arrived at the scene as the sun started to rise both the car and the spider were not to be found.

There is no happiness in following the ways of the world.

There is no happiness in following the
ways of the world.
Questioner: There are some people
who want what others have. If they see others
with a car, then they want it too.
Dadashri: When does lokasangnya
arise (lokasangnya—to be dictated by societal
influence)? It occurs when one is not satisfied
from within. Until today, I have not found
a single man to give me bliss. Even when I
was young, I did not find a need to keep a
radio. Are these all not live radios walking
around. One is prone to be dictated by the
ways of the world when there is greed within.
The real meaning of satisfaction is samatrushna
equanimity amidst desire.
People will say that happiness lies in
money, but there are some Sadhus—ascetics
—who will not accept money even if you
offered it to them. Even if you give me all the
gold in the world, I would not accept it because
I do not find happiness in money or
wealth at all. Happiness does not lie in money.
If it did then every one will derive happiness
from it. Whereas everyone will experience bliss
derived from the Soul because it is real happiness;
it is eternal happiness. There is so much
anand bliss in the Self that you cannot even
imagine it.     Balance

I will be calmly active, actively calm. I will not become lazy and mentally ossified. Nor will I be overactive, able to earn money but unable to enjoy life. I will meditate regularly to maintain true balance.

Farming in the city

Recently there was an article about industrial and residential properties in Detroit being used for farms. This is an excellent idea and one that will help us all. As manufacturing shrinks the factory land used for constructing cars can be used to feed people.

Southern Ontario and Michigan are renowned as car country. Detroit, aka Motown, home of GM and Ford, automotive capital of North America and its little brother, Windsor home to Oldsmobile and Chrysler are also found in some of the most productive soil in Canada. The temperate weather in this area makes it suitable for fruit trees, vegetables and grains.

Detroit Farming

Early spring, late summer and the warming affects of the Great Lakes makes this area excellent for farming.

As a child growing up in Windsor, Ontario I watched as the orchard at the end of our street was bought, ploughed over and turned into a Ford factory. Down the road the corn, wheat and a tomato farms became parking lots and industrial sites. The land was converted to manufacturing. Now its returning to is orginal purpose.

I remember being taught that this land could sustain four cash crops in one year. Winter wheat could be planted in the fall, in spring the seeds would germinate early allowing for a quick harvest in April or May. Beans and corn could be planted along side tomatoes and harvested by August, before the end of summer crops of cabbage and root vegetables could grow right into October. Factories had replaced all this, now we can regain this farm land for what it was created for.

chit chat and such

i have about five posts in my drafts pile, but i decided to write a new one instead. that probably accounts for all the other drafts.

at home at long last, though who can say for how long. driving for two days is not fun, even when shawny does the driving for you (she’s gonna be sleeping for a while), but i have many, many, many, many, many, many…(just pretend that goes on a bit)… pics of the car ride, taken by my phone, out the window. i forgot to charge my camera. hehe.

writing has not been done. let’s leave it at that. no other work has been done either. i don’t want to talk about it.

but, to cheer me us up, let’s see if i have any new pics. oh, here’s one:

it’s from france (haven’t loaded the pictures from england onto the computer yet and martialartsdude has the ones from ireland. have no fear, i shall get them soon!). here’s another:

well, that’s all for now. bye-bye, and have a nice day!

dammit

Still havent managed to finish a film in the Trip 35. I must go out and take more photos with it or I’ll never see what it can do!!

Usage wise – it was a star at Araluen and in Perth when I took it out. Simple, focus and click. And its so light. I think I’ll get some Ilford black and white and take it everywhere.

Still hankering after a Diana Mini 35 though – 1/2 frame 35mm lomo.. *sigh*

If only my car (see the beast below) hadn’t just cost $900 to service. Can I get it serviced cheaper and still maintain the warranty, thats the $million question.
